Overview
The Trading Portal is the Nairobi Coffee Exchange’s online platform for conducting and participating in coffee auctions. It replaces manual bidding with a secure, auditable system where lots are listed, bids are placed in real time, and trades are recorded. The portal supports both live auction sessions and access to catalogues, prices, and trading history—so buyers, brokers, and the exchange can operate in a structured, transparent way under CMA and AFA oversight.
Process
From catalogue to closed trade, the portal supports the full auction flow:
The system ensures structured, transparent, and efficient coffee trading for all participants, with clear rules and settlement timelines.
Access is restricted to licensed and registered participants in the NCE auction system.
AFA-licensed buyers log in to view the auction catalogue, place bids during live sessions, and manage settlement and delivery. Registration with the NCE is required.
Brokers are the sellers on the NCE. CMA-licensed brokers use the portal to list lots, set reserve prices, conduct auctions, and facilitate price discovery. They bring coffee to the exchange, manage it on the portal, and run the auction in line with NCE Trading Rules and CMA oversight.

Buyers must hold a valid licence from the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) and complete NCE buyer registration. Brokers must be licensed by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and registered with the NCE.
